Colour themes for an autumn wedding

When it comes to planning a wedding, the first decision that is often set in stone isn’t the venue or the caterer or the outfit. Let’s be honest, sometimes it isn’t even the potential future spouse. Picking a colour theme is a really fun part of the planning process and the perfect scheme can be the root of all your creative decisions for the big day.
So, where can we get inspiration for a wedding theme with colours that look great together? All around you! The world is full of inspiration for your wedding colour theme and in the autumn, Mother Nature spoils us with a plethora of luscious tones.
As we watch the leaves turn from all shades of green to amber gold and the ruby pink and purple sunsets succumb to dark velvety nights, we might allow ourselves the indulgent comfort and warmth of a bright, cackling fire and instantly, the colour themes for an autumn wedding are at the forefront of our minds.
If you’re anything like me, crunchy leaf season is the one to look forward to so I’ve pulled together some of my favourite autumn colour themes that could be perfect for your special day.
From summer to autumnDelicate florals, such as lisianthus, would be perfect to emphasise the lighter hues in this palette. This is a flower that comes in so many different colours, including a beautiful soft green. For the oaky shades of brown and tan, what better foliage to use than oak! Known as ‘quercus’ in the floristry world, oak foliage can even come painted in rich autumnal reds and purples for extra depth.
Vintage Blush in all her glory
This delicate autumn colour scheme is from my Vintage Blush collection, which is designed to be an updated version of the classic blush wedding theme. Combining warm honey tones with the traditional pairing of blush pink and cream creates a modern and unique twist on this colour palette and makes it perfect for an autumn wedding.
Dark greenery helps to set the autumnal mood in this bouquet and the richness is balanced by the soft pinks and creams provided so beautifully here by sweet avalanche roses. Trending wedding decor is all about dried flowers at the moment, and the textures of fluffy pampas grass can certainly add an element of luxury to this theme whilst matching the palette perfectly. Vibrancy isn’t just for summer
This next autumn wedding colour theme takes inspiration from the vibrant colours that this season has to offer. Orange and yellow are reminiscent of the changing colours of the leaves on the trees at this time of year and provide a bright crispness within the palette, which can be elevated with creamy peach tones. Blues and oranges paired together make for a modern and bold combination, and a deep blue will provide a satisfying richness to this autumnal theme.
Thistles are the perfect seasonal flower to include for elements of blue and they add a unique and interesting texture to a modern wedding bouquet. Two-tone flowers, such as some varieties of calla lilies and roses, work really well with this colour palette to reflect the changing seasons within one focal flower. Why not try adding an unusual flower into the mix for that wow factor? Tropical flowers, such as leucospermum and heliconia, can come in stunning shades of orange, perfect for this palette.
Pastels are possible in autumn
Next up is a winning autumn colour palette for anyone wanting a more pastel theme this season. The lightness created by soft pinks and creams are surrounded by gentle greens, giving a forever trending combination. The addition of dusky dark pink offers a certain depth that satisfies the need for warmth in an autumnal wedding theme.
Roses are a strong choice for a focal flower in both blush and cream tones, and for the hints of dark pink, filler flowers such as astilbe, astrantia or stattice could give the desired effect and texture. There’s no better foliage than eucalyptus when it comes to finding the perfect blue-green tone to complement this palette, plus the delicious scent is a lucky bonus!
Party vibes for the season
Last, but certainly not least, in my collection of autumn colour combinations is this indulgent selection of burgundy, burnt orange, fuscia and peach. This palette brings with it an element of festivity and fun to any wedding and is bang on trend for 2025.
If dahlias are your favourite but they’re out of season, there are some truly stunning varieties of chrysanthemum that give the same fullness and texture, and would look stunning as a peach of hot pink focal flower within this theme. To create a luxurious texture and shape, look towards trailing amaranthus in burgundy or pink.
The world is your oyster
Autumn is my favourite season for an abundance of colour and texture in the world around us and the idea of reflecting these visual treats throughout a wedding theme is incredibly exciting for a florist. Be sure to ask your florist for advice when it comes to seasonality and colour combinations that work time and time again, but don’t be afraid to step outside the box and add a little something that represents who you are as a couple. Picking your wedding colour scheme is an important thing to tick off on your wedding planning list but don’t rush your choice. If you’re getting married in autumn 2025, remember to slow down, enjoy the crunchy leaves, and watch the world around you over the next couple of months. Watch Mother Nature as she does her thing, and take inspiration from the magic she creates.
